Brighton, Cambridge and Bournemouth boast the most property activity outside of the capital, according to new research.

Property information specialists Groundsure used data from mapping sales related to the planning process to identify local authorities with the greatest ‘density’ of activity per square kilometre.
London boroughs and Watford dominated the top 25 local authority hotspots, with the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea seizing the top spot.
With the exception of Watford, the City of Brighton & Hove the highest-placed local authority area outside of London, ranked at 17. Bournemouth followed at number 22, while Cambridge ranked 25.
Groundsure managing director Dan Montagnani said that while the capital’s domination of the list was predictable, the ranking was good news for the south coast.
‘London was clearly going to have most developments underway, but we were surprised to find that, outside of London, Bournemouth is the second most active area for developments in the UK,’ he said.
‘Alongside Brighton, this shows a clear demand for property on the south coast.
‘With the current government target of increasing the supply of housing to 240,000 additional homes per year by 2016, it’s good to see that this already active sector is likely to experience further growth after the next election.’
Groundsure said its research broadly reflected official statistics of planning applications from the Office for National Statistic, but came ahead of official figures due in June.
